IFP School: New dissemination agreement in Malaysia

20 February 2006

On January 6, 2006, IFP signed an agreement with Petronas University of Technology (UTP) in Malaysia for the launch of a joint Masters program in Petroleum Geosciences.

This 16-month program will be run entirely at UTP in Malaysia (the university's campus was designed by the renowned architect, Norman Foster). It will be taught in English and will begin in June 2006. For the first session, IFP will be responsible for all 11 of the technical teaching modules, each of which will last 3 weeks. Subsequently, part of the program will be delivered by UTP, with the teaching ultimately being split 50/50.

This satellite degree-program is integral to the IFP school's dissemination policy - conducted in collaboration with IFP's continuing professional training subsidiary, IFP Training - which consists of delivering qualifying courses abroad. These initiatives are implemented in collaboration with a local partner university and one or more industrial partners (international company or national firm), who finance the program and ensure that it matches local needs.

The dissemination policy is a means of meeting the increasing needs of certain oil-producing countries for qualified staff capable of rapidly taking on positions of responsibility in national and international companies or service providers. Its implementation implies the full commitment of the School's teams responsible for student selection – around 20 are chosen for each session -, program design and pedagogical follow-up. They also deliver at least half of the teaching.

The first dissemination programs began in 2002 in Angola, with Agostinho Neto University, and in Russia in association with the Lomonosov Academy in Moscow. Other satellite degree-programs followed in 2003, in Iran with the Petroleum University of Technology, in Nigeria with the University of Port-Harcourt and then in 2004 in Algeria with the Algerian Petroleum Institute.

Programs are currently up and running in a variety of countries, including Algeria, Angola, Iran and Nigeria. The IFP School plans to continue this policy of diversification.

Open to graduates from around the world, IFP School offers a comprehensive range of training programs aimed at all oil, gas, petrochemical and engine professions. Integral to IFP, IFP School benefits from an environment which guarantees the scientific relevance of its programs (more than 100 IFP engineers teach at the school) and the quality of the technical resources available to students. More than 50 companies from many countries sponsor students or second professionals each year, guaranteeing the School's high level of industrial integration and facilitating learning development. The School has a marked international dimension: each year 50% of the students at its Rueil-Malmaison site are foreign and some of its training programs are taught entirely in English. The dissemination policy also reflects its international influence. >> www.ifp-school.com
