IFP and TOTAL have signed an agreement to create a research and teaching chair in sedimentology and reservoir characterization at IFP School.

By creating this chair position, the companies hope to support and develop teaching and research on these two subjects, both of which involve major issues in today's energy context, the improved operation of oil and gas deposits and CO2 storage, which require considerable education and training efforts.

Most of this research will be carried out as part of doctoral theses, to be done in IFP's laboratories or in Total's R&D centers.

Philippe Joseph, a Doctor-Engineer in Geology, professor at IFP School and researcher at IFP's Geology – Geochemistry – Geophysics division, has been appointed to this new chair position. Philippe Joseph is an internationally-recognized expert in deep deposit sedimentology and sedimentary process modeling. In addition to defining and supervising doctoral theses in cooperation with Total, his work will mainly involve drafting teaching proposals and running an international relations network.
