Launched in March 2008 by D2T and supported by the Fonds Unifié Interministériel (FUI) and the Mov'eo competitiveness cluster, the HyHIl project is aimed at developing a suite of software tools that can be used to predict and optimize the performance of a hybrid powertrain and validate it in advance on a high-dynamic engine test bench before any testing is performed on a vehicle.
D2T's partners in the project are IFP, Renault, the Laboratoire de Génie Electrique de Grenoble (G2ELAB), and LMS-Imagine.

This project is a response to strong pressure on the car industry to develop vehicles combining extremely low fuel consumption and CO2 emissions while emitting very few pollutants. Hybrid ICE / electric powertrains are one very promising approach to this challenge. But when a hybrid powertrain is being designed, consideration must be given at a very early stage to the integration of all of its components. This creates a strong need for generic tools allowing the development and optimization of these powertrains and their validation on high-dynamic engine test benches.

The HyHIL project is based on numerically modeling the powertrain components (electric motor, battery, transmission, etc.) in the LMS’ Imagine.Lab AMESim software environment and on D2T's MORPHEE 2 test bench supervisor, which makes it possible to run these models in real time on the bench where the internal combustion engine is physically installed.

The components of the hybrid powertrain are modeled by LMS and the electrical elements by G2ELAB. The control and supervision methodologies are being developed by IFP. D2T is in charge of software integration and industrial development. Renault, as end user, is contributing its expertise in vehicle integration and will take part in approving each step of the development process.

When the project is completed, the tools developed will be marketed through the respective D2T’s (MORPHEE 2 test bench supervisor) and LMS’ (AMESim software design platform) software suites.

D2T, an industrial partner of IFP, is an international company providing engine and transmission engineering solutions to carmakers throughout the world. Its rapid growth is based on highly skilled teams and the development of tools that have become benchmarks in their markets, such as its MORPHEE test bench automation system.
