Fuel-efficient vehicles

Developing clean, fuel-efficient vehicles

Tackling climate change is a crucial political issue. In France, the transport sector accounts for 34% of CO2 emissions.

In Europe, the Commission has proposed an average CO2 emission objective of 130 g/km for vehicles sold in 2012 (in comparison with the average of 160 g/km emitted in 2008). It has also set a target of 95 g/km by 2020. Cutting the fuel consumption and CO2 emissions of vehicles is therefore an important objective that plays a significant role in structuring the industry.

Research projects have the potential to provide vehicle fuel consumption savings of up to 40%

Research at IFP focuses primarily on controlling vehicle fuel consumption and cutting CO2 emissions. More specifically, studies are concentrating on improving conventional powertrains, assessing alternative fuels and developing vehicles electrification.
