Economics and Information Watch and Management Division

The Economics and Information Watch and Management Division carries out technical and economic studies and forecast analyses, contributes to scientific, technical and competitive intelligence through the services and tools it develops, and manages the IFP Energies nouvelles documentary holding.

With this in mind, the Economics and Information Watch and Management Division is arranged into three areas of expertise:

  • Economics
Technical and economic studies, forecast analyses
  • Information Watch
Search for information, scientific, technical, competitive and strategic
    intelligence
  • Information Management
Manages the IFP Energies nouvelles information and documentation center, and its significant documentary holding, in particular.

Economics

This team draw up reports on the business climate and on the economic and energy outlook over the short, medium and long terms, and conduct studies on prices, oil product markets, new energy technologies, equipment, etc. Its activity covers four kinds of studies:

  • General economic studies: information search and forecasting in the field of energy, monitoring regulation and legislation linked to environmental aspects: CO2 market, fuel standards, vehicle emissions, etc.
  • Market research: identifying market opportunities in all IFP Energies nouvelles's areas of expertise.
  • Technical and economic assessments: searching for target scenario, cost assessment, economic and financial analysis, assessing a research-oriented or industrial project's profitability.
  • Environmental analyses: valuation and assessment of environmental impacts using Life Cycle Analysis (LCA), primarily on the topic of global warming and energy consumption.

The team is made up of engineers and economists, who work in their own specific areas of expertise. It has numerous technical and economic models and databases that are either commercially available or, more often, developed in-house for specific purposes.
The studies are conducted for various IFP Energies nouvelles bodies or as part of agreements with institutions and industrial groups from France and abroad. The team is involved, in particular, in various projects funded by the Agence Nationale de la Recherche (ANR, or the French National Research Agency) or the European Commission.
With an average of ten PhD students each year, it also carries out economic research in the fields of energy and transport, in partnership with other higher education centers, IFP School and the other divisions in IFP Energies nouvelles.

Information Watch

The team contributes to the development and strategies regarding R&D initiatives by meeting various IFP Energies nouvelles bodies' needs in terms of information (Research Divisions, Business Units, Scientific Management, etc.).
It supports other Research Divisions and thereby provides IFP Energies nouvelles with its input in terms of scientific, technical, competitive and strategic intelligence by drawing up periodical monitoring reports, one-off reports, conducting searches for patents, etc.
