Use of lubricants

To meet increasingly severe antipollution standards, IFP is working to upgrade lubricant formulations. On the strength of its expertise in the match between engines and fuels, IFP proposes various ways to optimize the use of lubricants in engines.

Optimize the use of lubricants in engines

IFP makes its knowledge and know-how in lubricants available to its customers.

  • Quantification of lubricant performance

IFP's teams are developing testing methodologies with which to quantify the performance of lubricants in actual use in engines.

  • Selection and qualification of lubricants

IFP runs tests on engine benches to select and qualify lubricants and their additives.

  • Evaluation of new generations of lubricants: Long Life Renault

Developed jointly with Renault, this method is aimed at evaluating the performance of lubricants intended for applications in which oil changes are at very long intervals. It serves in particular to characterize the new generations of lubricants having very low ash contents (low-saps oil), used in application of the Euro IV depollution standards (and Euro V from 2010).
