Role of calibration

Calibration serves to determine the best settings for an engine. IFP is extending the scope of its expertise and its activities in this field.

Tools and methodologies specific to calibration

Calibration is a crucial stage in engine development. IFP is developing the experimental tools and advanced methodologies essential to this phase:

  • automation of test benches,
  • generation of experimental designs,
  • data processing,
  • creation and optimization of maps, etc.

This approach covers the engine's steady-state and transient operating modes.

New test bench supervision software

Working with the powertrain design and testing company D2T, IFP has also contributed to the development of the new Morphée 2 test bench supervision software. This software was launched on the market by D2T at the beginning of 2007.

Calibration in engine control

In this field, IFP's work is aimed at determining several tens of thousands of parameters for the electronic control of a modern vehicle in all circumstances.

This calibration step is a fundamental stage in the creation of a vehicle: it directly affects the final quality of the product.

Example of an achievement: development and adaptation of a natural gas-powered engine, a small urban hybrid vehicle.
