R&D themes

R&D work in the field of engine control is developed by the Technology, Computer Science, and Applied Mathematics Division.

The use of models in a generic sense is widely practiced. These uses are often all grouped together under the term "model-based Design" for engine control (See Technology, Computer Science, and Applied Mathematics Division).

R&D work leads to innovative results concerning:

  • the air loop

  • the fuel loop

  • estimation of the composition of fuel in Flex fuel (or natural gas) engines

  • the treatment of combustion gases

  • control of the powertrain part, where various actuators are considered: thermal or electric engines, clutches, alternators, gear boxes, etc.

  • energy management and optimization in hybrid vehicles.
