IFP is involved in the development cycle of control laws for new powertrains designed by IFP, by car manufacturers or in collaboration with research partners. The engine control offer can be divided into 3 families:
This offer is part of a very upstream phase of a new concept or a new technology related to the powertrain. IFP possesses software tools such as simulation models or advanced control algorithms that significantly speed up the concept exploration phase, either for IFP’s internal engine technology research requirements or in collaboration with other academic or industrial partners.
IFP guarantees the implementation of a solution that is suitable in terms of hardware and software, in accordance with real-time requirements, in order to address questions inherent to new concepts as quickly and efficiently as possible.
IFP works in partnership with industry for the development and production of original and innovative control laws within a powertrain. IFP can become involved in the pre-project or upstream phase for the development / installation / validation of a control law linked to an innovation for the manufacturer. The software design work is carried out on the basis of functional specifications associated with an industrial definition of sensors/actuators. IFP uses the design process supplied by the manufacturer, with its associated tools, and guarantees full support, from the design phase right through to final integration on test facilities.
The deliverables therefore correspond to a control law that is incorporated into an existing engine control structure, with its calibration methods. Validation on customers’ testing facilities can be performed by IFP.
This offer is original in several way:
The 3rd engine control offer concerns the development and integration of a complete engine control system on a prototype vehicle for IFP or for a customer. This type of engine control is called “full-pass”; this means that the control laws are developed in Matlab / Simulink and that the whole system is based on an electronic, real-time fast prototyping platform, entirely designed at IFP. The fact that it is entirely independent of a mass-produced engine control system makes it possible to test innovative algorithms and to avoid restricting operation of the prototype vehicle by an unsuitable control software.
Throughout the project, system simulation enables validation of control developments, either individually or overall, using adapted simulation platforms. Validation extends to installation of Hardware In The Loop platform for real-time validation of engine control.
