Diesopti project awarded

Predit Award Ceremony

The GSM, Groupement Scientifique Moteurs, constituted by Renault, PSA and IFP, has received an award for the Diesopti project at the last Carrefour du Predit (May 5-7, 2008 - Paris).
PREDIT is a programme of research, experimentation and innovation in land transport, started and implemented by the ministries in charge of research, transport, environment and industry, the ADEME and OSEO. This project has contributed to the development of the next diesel engine generation, meeting future emissions regulations.

Technology focus

Mild-Hybrid Urban Vehicle
Vehgan - Mild-Hybrid Urban Vehicle

"The Combination of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and mild hybridization using the Stop-Start function and brake energy recovery reduces drastically CO2 emissions on the Vehgan demonstrator: the engine optimisation associated to IFP vehicle control strategies (including automatic gearbox) achieves up to 30% CO2 emissions saving compared to the gasoline reference vehicle".
Dominique Soleri
IFP, CNG engine project manager

IFP at Vienna Motor Symposium 2008

IFP took part, on April 24 and 25, in the 29th Vienna Motor Symposium in Austria. The conference brings together, for the car industry, one thousand engine experts from the industrial and research world, with a very large German participation. The conference program especially highlighted this year the latest high performance diesel and gasoline serial production engines, new combustion systems and powertrain hybridization.

Carrefour du Predit
May 5-7, 2008

IFP demonstrator vehicles

IFP has participated to the Carrefour du Predit in Paris. Different meetings and round tables have allowed to present the achievements of the Predit 3 (2002-2007) but also to introduce the orientations of the future Predit 4 (2008-2012).
PREDIT is a French national programme of research, experimentation and innovation in land transport. By stimulating cooperation between public and private sector, this programme aims at encouraging the creation of transportation systems that would be economically and socially more effective, safer, more energy saving, and finally more respectful of man and environmentally-friendly.
During the event, ride & drive sessions dedicated to innovative transport were organised at Versailles Satory including test drives of three IFP demonstrator vehicles :
- NGV Micro-Hybrid Urban Concept (Vehgan),
- Low consumption, downsized gasoline Renault Vel Satis,
- Biodiesel Citroen C4.

In short

->  IFP Powertrain Engineering Business Unit has just obtained the renewal of the AFAQ ISO 9001 certification with the extension of the certification perimeter to the Energy domain.

->  IFP enhances its experimental facilities in the field of 2nd-generation biofuels obtained from the thermochemical conversion of biomass (BtL - Biomass to liquid).
> Press release

->  IFP is among the Top 15 patent assignees in France: according to INPI’s latest 2007 league table of patent assignees in France, IFP ranks 14th among the French patent assignees and it is thus among the Top 3 French research centers.
> Press release

->  IFP has developed a new totally automated single-cylinder engine test bench concept, dedicated to combustion chamber development work. This high-performance tool, notably based on the use of the D2T Morphée II control software, provides a significant test productivity gain.

->  Launch of the HyHil project, supported by the FUI (interdepartmental unified fund) achieved in collaboration with D2T, LMS, Renault and the LEG laboratory, which is concerned with the development of software tools intended for hybrid systems development aid, as the basis for future test platforms.

IFP & you

->  A measure and 3D modelling of engine temperature fluctuations project developed by IFP for Renault.

Optical engine measures

"The cooperation between Renault and IFP in "Predit T" was efficient as it allowed to achieve considerable progress in industrial capabilities to predict temperature impact on auto-ignition process for Diesel engines and knock limit for gasoline engines. We deeply appreciate the highly professional scientific level of the work provided by IFP and the application of the team to industrial issues"
