According to the INPI1’s 2007 league table of patent assignees in France, IFP ranks 14th (in terms of the number of patents registered), and is among the top 3 French research centers (along with the CEA2 and the CNRS3).
With 159 new patents in 2007, IFP now boasts over 12,700 active patents in its portfolio. 52 of them (39 in 2006) relate to New Energy Technologies (NETs), including capturing and storing CO2 and diversifying fuel sources, in particular. NET patents’ growing share bears witness to IFP’s drive for innovation. The objective is to develop the necessary technologies for a smooth energy transition in the fields of energy, transport and the environment.
With 76 patents in 2006, IFP ranks 7th among the French patent assignees in the United States, behind Alcatel, Thomson Lisencing, L'Oréal, the CEA, the CNRS and SNECMA Moteurs, according to the 2007 Patent Intelligence and Technology Report. On the European stage, IFP ranks 28th.
These achievements are the result of IFP’s proactive industrial development policy, aimed at protecting research results and conducting technology transfers.
