Appointment at IFP

27 July 2006

Philippe Ungerer is appointed scientific director. He succeeds Jacqueline Lecourtier, appointed Director of the Agence Nationale de la Recherche (ANR - France's national research agency).

Philippe Ungerer, 50, is a graduate of the Paris Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Mines and holds a doctorate from the University of Paris-Sud.
He joined IFP in 1980 as a research engineer in the Geology-Geochemistry division, where he contributed to the development of basin models, i.e. software simulating the formation of oil and gas deposits. In 1991, he joined the Chemistry & Applied Physical Chemistry division, where he was involved in the development of experimental and theoretical methods in applied thermodynamics. Since 1998, his work in molecular simulation, in close association with the University of Paris-Sud (on secondment in 1999, Associate Professor from 2000 to 2005), has led to applications in many projects.
Philippe Ungerer is the author of more than 40 papers in international scientific journals and of a book on the industrial applications of molecular simulation.
