Fuel production

Fuel demand is rising sharply, with a marked increase in the gas oil to gasoline ratio worldwide, a ratio that has already reached very high levels in Europe.

For this reason, IFP is committed to developing innovative solutions to optimize the production of hydrocarbons.

Facilitating the application of environmental standards

The fuel market must respond to increasingly stringent standards:

  • lead has already been eliminated,
  • the reduction in sulphur and aromatic contents is having profound impacts on the refining industry,
  • a reduction in olefin and benzene contents will, without doubt, constitute the next step.

In this context, IFP is working to overcome the major challenge posed by octane numbers.

Optimizing fuel production

IFP is working to perfect processes for:

  • catalysts and catalytic reforming,
  • paraffin isomerization,
  • hydrotreatment.

Developing new catalysts for desulphurization

A new line of catalysts is being studied for the hydrotreatment of catalytic cracking gasolines. They will be used in the Prime-G+TM desulphurization process. Commercialized by Axens, Prime-G+TM is the world leader in this field.

Improving the production of diesel oils and kerosenes

IFP is working to perfect catalysts which are more active and more stable. It is also developing technologies that will reduce the sulphur-content specifications of kerosenes with a view to reducing the pollution caused by air traffic.
