Producing in difficult conditions

In order to meet the high demand for hydrocarbons, field operators and oil companies are obliged to produce from fields that present increasingly difficult conditions.

  • Wells are located in deeper and deeper waters.
  • Natural gas products have an increasingly hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and carbon dioxide (CO2) content.
  • Fields remain in production for increasingly long periods. At these mature fields, considerable amounts of water are produced at the same time as the hydrocarbons. In consequence, the water treatment facilities are becoming larger and larger.
Producing from fields that present increasingly difficult conditions

To respond to these problems, IFP is concentrating on three areas:

  • flow modelling in production networks and oil and water separation: flow assurance,
  • drilling and production riser development: subsea umbilical riser flowlines,
  • sour gas treatment.
