IFP and RIPED, the research centre for exploration and production of the Chinese company PETROCHINA, have signed, the 7 of october, a cooperation agreement for the development of innovating technologies in the upstream oil domain.
On the occasion of the visit to IFP of the important Chinese delegation, Jia Chengzao, President of RIPED/PETROCHINA and Olivier Appert, President of IFP, have signed a long term cooperation agreement in the field of exploration and production of hydrocarbons (oil and gas).
The first R&D projects have been identified and will be started up in 2006. They will concern the main themes of reservoir characterization and the improvement of hydrocarbon recovery using injection of gas and polymer techniques. These two entities will also reinforce their experience and know-how which is already well in advance in these fields.
In addition to these R&D studies, this agreement also envisages exchanges of personnel to reinforce the scientific and technical exchanges between these two bodies.
IFP is a research and industrial development, training and information services center active in the fields of oil and gas, their use (in particular by vehicles), and the new energy and environmental technologies (production of fuels from biomass, biofuels, hydrogen, the capture and storage of CO2, etc.).
In an international energy context marked by major challenges - renewing petroleum reserves, broadening the energy mix and combatting climate change -, IFP's vocation is to innovate, developing and transferring the technologies that will make it possible to supply enough energy to meet growing world needs, especially in the transport and petrochemical sectors, lastingly and without harm to the environment, for the rest of the 21st century.
RIPED was established in 1958. It is the sole upstream comprehensive research centre of PETROCHINA Company Limited, the largest oil and gas producer and supplier in China. RIPED's headquarters are based in Beijing. About 1900 research scientists work for RIPED. Its research activities cover almost all upstream activities including oil and gas exploration, oil and gas field development, drilling and production engineering, as well as information and technology standardization. RIPED's role is to provide PETROCHINA with advanced techniques for the company's strategic decision making support, technical support and service, high-tech. research and development. Also for high level professional education and training.
