First Regional Symposium on Carbon Management Challenges and Opportunities for the Petroleum Industry

The First Regional Symposium on Carbon Management was hosted by Saudi Aramco in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, during the period of May 22-24, 2006. The symposium did include technical presentations and panel discussions to address the symposium's main theme: "Carbon Management Challenges and Opportunities for the Petroleum Industry".

Internationally recognized speakers from around the world have delivered keynote presentations discussing mid to long term global energy and CO2 emissions outlook. The symposium has also included technical presentations discussing technologies to capture CO2 from industrial sources, reducing CO2 emissions from the transportation sector, utilizing CO2 to enhance oil recovery, storing CO2 in subsurface geological formations, research and industry alliances to address various technological aspects of carbon management, applying CDM to carbon management and other relevant topics.

IFP made 3 presentations at this symposium :

  • 22 May p.m.: "CASTOR, CO2 from Capture to Storage" - Pierre Le Thiez
  • 24 May a.m.: "Reducing CO2 emissions from Land Transportation: IC Engine Design Considerations" - Dominique Herrier
  • 24 May a.m.: "Long Term Geological Storage of CO2 in Mature Oil Field" - Yann Le Gallo
