In many parts of the world, there is growing interest in coalbed methane (CBM), which has been exploited for years in the United States. One reason is undoubtedly that some new gas producing countries, including India and China, are seeking to limit the level of their gas dependence.
Another is the need to control greenhouse gas emissions, especially using mechanisms set up under the Kyoto Protocol.
Finally, the increase in gas prices on international markets also encourages this trend.
