Transforming as much raw material as possible to energy for transport

The refining and petrochemical industries face two major challenges:

  • extracting as much fuel and petrochemical base material as possible from each barrel of oil,
  • reducing their impact on the environment.

Different types of oil

Clean production

The waste generated during oil production must be treated and overall waste levels must be reduced. In addition, increasingly clean oil-based products need to be made available to consumers at the best price possible.

Developing conversion solutions

The trend is towards the use of heavy crude oil. Ultimately, attention will turn to the upgrade of unconventional oils. These changes will require the development of conversion technologies, particularly deep conversion methods which are able to crack very long hydrocarbon chains.

Controlling CO2 emissions

At the same time, refineries must limit their CO2 emissions. IFP is committed to developing innovative solutions that respond to these different challenges.
