Our European commitment

In March 2007, the European Union set itself some ambitious targets to combat climate change.
Currently occupying the Vice-presidency of two European technology platforms through its CEO, Olivier Appert, IFP contributes to the definition of European research agendas designed to achieve these goals:

  • in the field of biofuels, through the Biofuels platform;
  • in the field of CO2 capture and storage with the Zero Emission Fossil Fuel Power Plant (ZEP) platform.

Active participation in the Research and Development Framework Program (FP)

The recommendations of the technology platforms are implemented as part of joint projects funded by the European Commission via the Research and Development Framework Program (FP).

In line with its research strategies, IFP is active on a European scale in the following areas:
- the capture and storage of CO2
- biofuels
- clean engines

IFP took part in 27 projects funded by the European Commission as part of FP6 (2002-2006), aimed at developing clean energy technologies.

As a natural continuum of these activities, IFP participated in 23 proposals submitted during the first call of FP7 (2007-2013). These concern a broad range of sectors: energy, transport, aeronautics, nanotechnologies, information and communication technologies, etc.

Bilateral agreements

In line with these joint actions, IFP actively engages in a policy of bilateral partnerships with European research centers working in the field of NETs. For example, IFP signed a framework agreement to cooperate with the Dutch research institute TNO, covering, in particular, research in the fields of CO2 capture and storage and hybrid vehicles.
