IFP and the Carnot label

The Carnot label is part of the Pact for Research that the French Government instituted in April 2006.
The Carnot label program is geared to research organizations working in partnership with business and industrial firms.

Certification is awarded for a renewable four-year period and entitles qualified organizations to Government funding enabling them to consolidate their scientific expertise and co-operation.

Selective certification to promote research partnerships with business firms

Research centers applying for Carnot label certification and funding need to meet a number of criteria in terms of their:

  • scientific and technological excellence,
  • ties with academic research,
  • ability to steer research towards high-quality solutions addressing business and industry needs.

The Carnot label is thereby playing a part in efforts to streamline France’s technological-research landscape and thereby to cement France’s appeal among leading international research centers and business firms.

IFP earns Carnot label certification

IFP’s expertise in fuel and powertrain systems for the transport sector earned the Carnot label certification in 2006. The certified research projects in this scope encompass 300 researchers and the following fields:

  • diesel and gasoline engine combustion systems,
  • exhaust-pollutant after-treatment,
  • engine-fuel couples (alternative fuels included),
  • hybrid powertrains and their control.

IFP was one of the first 20 French research organizations to earn Carnot label certification.
